Assurancewireless customer service is dishonest and inept. It took me over a month to get a replacement UMX U693CL phone when my original failed with an unrecoverable memory error. Had to haggle with them to waive a shipping fee since this is a free government provided service. For some reason their system couldn't verify my USPS address so they didn't ship the replacement phone nor tell me this! Happened a second time and was promised 3 day shipping. Not so! Was promised tracking number via email w/in 24hrs of call and never happened. Reps would put you on permanent hold without warning when you gave them negative feedback after they had asked.
===
The Unimax UMX U693CL smartphone does the job but has horrible voice clarity for outgoing and incoming voice. Uses a replaceable battery (remember those?!?!?!) that doesn't last a year. I can only imagine what assurance would say when you call them for a free replacement battery that you should be entitled to. (About $25 online!) My phone failed before I tried to get one. It would last < 1 hour before dying in less than a year.
===
If you let the battery get to 0%, the phone's OS would often go into perpetual repeating partial boot up until you got lucky with a manual reboot by trying various button combinations at power up.
===
16Gb memory is super limiting and I don't shot a lot of photos, and you won't with this SD resolution 2Mpixel camera that struggles with low light defined as anything below when the sun is less than 20° above the horizon. Need to photograph a page of text to document it? Good luck on being able to read it. Especially if your lighting wasn't supernova bright. It has a flash but it just can't make up for the poor resolution.

Service from 21 April 2020 to 23 May 2021 (present). UMX U693CL 16Gb storage, Android 9.

Assurance smartphones (Unimax) are unbelievably slow and stupid, and make calls all on their own when they're just sitting on a table! Maybe the plan is good, but if I rarely get more than 2 bars at home in the city, the phone only works sporadically between bursts of ads, or keeps calling people I don't mean to talk to, the plan doesn't matter. Help and support is tremendously time-consuming and often unhelpful. If you have a better choice, avoid Assurance.
